TLC Global Education System

TLC Global’s Education System is the foundation for the success of the TLC Kids Programmes. It was designed to provide a common and reliable system for all classes with the following core principles in mind:

  • Focus on common lesson structure which integrates flexible, yet structured interactive learning
  • Active Learning System integrates enquiry-based, objectives-oriented approach to teaching and learning
  • Integration of dynamic teaching practice
  • International standard content utilising technology and latest resources
  • Focus on excellence and quality control in all areas

Educational Philosophy

O Technology cannot replace the traditional role of the teacher as a inspirational guide and learning facilitator.

O Excellence in extra-curricular education is essentially achieved through establishing quality relationships, through meaningful learning opportunities and interactions between teacher and student.

O Well-trained, passionate teachers, combined with quality program content and frameworks, provide the ideal balance for real success in extra-curricular education.

Instructional Design Principles

O Our instructional design development is fed by both research and development and proactive in-house evaluation systems.

O Our design methodology focuses on the type of instructional content to be taught. Our educational thrust is heavily skill based.

O Skill development training involves the following phases (based on Bloom’s Taxonomy): Concept Knowledge > Procedure Comprehension > Practical Comprehension > Practical Synthesis

Learner

O The learner is the key focus in all TLC Global Programs.

O The learner is always actively engaged in the learning process.

O The learner must be aware of specific learning objectives for each lesson.

O The learner is given opportunities to practice and develop skills in a supportive and non-threatening environment.

O The learner is able to engage in a range of individual and group-based collaborative tasks.

O The learner is guided by the teacher through immediate and appropriately measured feedback. This feedback is given to encourage and reinforce learning.

O The learner is given opportunities to demonstrate their competencies before, during and after instruction.

Programmes

O Programmes are based on ‘socio-educational’ and ‘socio-technological’ requirements of the host community.

O Programmes are organised and logically sequenced based on TLC Global’s Instructional Design Principles.

O Programmes are structured to cater for individual learning needs and differentiate based on the group variance in terms of skill, knowledge and proficiency.

O Programme development strategy consists of the following stages: Analysis, Prototyping, Production and Quality Assurance.

Delivery

O Consistent and replicable presentation ensures continuity and sustainability within our Programmes.

O Programmes are delivered in a focused and controlled learning environment, guided and facilitated by the teacher.

O Delivery methods are interactive, engaging and motivating.

O Delivery is structured in terms of lesson format: Introduction and Overview, Directed Instruction, Practical Consolidation (with Feedback) and Practical Synthesis (with Feedback).

O Delivery methods integrate a balance between individual practice, group work, and collaborative interaction.

O WEB PORTAL: Through flexible learning environments (multimedia and e-learning) we are able to offer the learner many modes of content delivery based on their learning styles and preferences.

Assessment

O Pre-learning evaluation ensures that all students are correctly placed in terms of their learning needs.

O Programme-based assessment is primarily formative. It is informed both by teacher observation and assessment.

O Formative assessments are directly related to learning tasks and progressive entries are recorded by the teacher on a students’ individual assessment profile.

O Formative assessment results are used to inform teaching focus for individual students.

O Summative assessments are conducted through projects where students collaborate and apply what they have learned. These highlight the student’s strengths and weaknesses in the synthesis of skills and knowledge.
